"A future reshape, time in reverse" There's no band like Fu Manchu in the stoner rock genre. Many acts tried to copy these seasoned musicians, however, none had such impact or longevity. Active since 1985, these veterans have been just as influential as Kyuss or Monster Magnet in shaping this sonic field, keeping their own trajectory throughout the decades.
Southern California stoner rock gods Fu Manchu are the musical equivalent of a van with an interplanetary dust-up painted on its side. Their Stooges-meet-Sabbath riffs are sick as shit, and the band is obviously hesh to death (as all skate rats know). But in recent years, it's become increasingly hard to ignore the band's interest in the psychedelic, sci-fi and the unknown (think 2014's Gigantoid and previous LP Signs of Infinite Power) and how it informs their sound.
Clone of the Universe, the new album from Fu Manchu, is a tale of two halves. Released on the band's own At The Dojo Records, the songs that make up side A are exactly what we've come to expect from these stoner rock stalwarts. After all, this is the bands 12th album of raunchy, fuzzed out anthems. It's equal parts 70's rock and doom and 80's punk and hardcore.
