As a frequent music critic, I commonly find myself listening to music that sounds exactly like another album I reviewed the week before. Bands come a dime for a dozen, and in today's world of music, similarities in sounds, styles, and melodies do exist- quite too often. As a result, the music that I find worth listening to is usually very different. Uniqueness is a term that has been discarded with modern styles of music, and I enjoy when bands such as Idiot Pilot return to creating a genre instead of becoming one. With Idiot Pilot's recent release, "Wolves," they have set up their own genre, and have done it quite well. Idiot Pilot's two members, Michael Harris and Daniel Anderson, let their talents show in every song on "Wolves." The duet performs every instrument on the album, from percussion to vocals, with precision and perfection. The instrumentation is extremely unique, making their sound even better. They incorporate electronic beats and sounds with extremely technical guitar leads, melodic tunes, and intense breakdowns that are certain to remain in memory. The album includes songs such as "Good Luck" and "Cruel World Enterprise" that exemplifies Idiot Pilot's attention to detail, as well as their attention to technicality. "Good Luck" includes a cat! chy melo dy that erupts into a breakdown sure to get anyone dancing, while "Cruel World Enterprise" exhibits the bands lyrical potential with one of the most memorable songs on the album. I expect to see much more publicity from Idiot Pilot's "Wolves" in the near future. All fans of Emery's vocal movements and Panic! At the Disco's electronic instrumentation, here is a band that you may want to keep an eye on as their fan base expands. I give Idiot Pilot's "Wolves" a 4 out of 5 for originality, musicality, uniqueness, and more importantly, for ability. 10-Dec-2007
