Those same fans will likely not be happy with Cuomo's return to musical, emotional bloodletting with 2005's Make Believe. It may be a spiritual cousin to Pinkerton, yet it's far removed from the raw, nervy immediacy of that album. Nearly ten years separate the two records, a long time by any measure, so it shouldn't be a surprise that Cuomo has a far different emotional outlook here.
Weezer have been off the scene for a while because front man Rivers Cuomo has been studying at Harvard, taking time out "to be a good person". In the meantime, their studied nerd-rock has taken something of an assault from sound-similar bands such as McFly and Busted who are actually, well, nerdish. Weezer's reply has been to up the sarcasm and wit to emphasise that much of what they do is at least heavily ironic.
