Thought the debut was good? You ain't heard nothing yet... There are curveballs and then there are curveballs. We Are The Ocean fans should gear themselves up to catch this one, because ‘Go Now And Live’ comes in thick, fast and as a complete sonic surprise. Where ‘Cutting Our Teeth’ did exactly as it described, ‘Go Now And Live’ displays a level of progression since then that many bands would take the best part of a decade to achieve.
Review Summary: These Young English Cardinals have turned homage into outright stalking. On their first two releases, one could not help but feel a little sorry for young English quintet We Are The Ocean. As impressive as the post-hardcore outfit were at effectively balancing aggression and melody, there was a nagging comparison which they simply could not escape from... Their sound was very similar to that of the already well-established band Alexisonfire.
Essex post-hardcore five-piece finally find themselves on album number two. Raziq Rauf 2011 When they burst onto the scene in 2007 We Are the Ocean may have had their detractors; but with Go Now and Live, the Essex post-hardcore quintet have proven themselves as more than just an Alexisonfire tribute act. While the naysayers will point to Liam Cromby’s velvety tones as still aping those of Dallas Green and Dan Brown’s harsh shouts as the equivalent of George Pettit’s balancer, and there is no disputing that the Canadians are still certainly a massive influence musically.
