Album Review: Balboa Island by The Pretty Things

These grizzled British Invasion-era vets may no longer be pretty, but there’s a weird beauty in the matter-of-fact way The Pretty Things rip through Balboa Island‘s 13 blues, jazz, and R&B-inflected tunes. True, the dearth of to-die-for hooks assures that erstwhile rivals the Rolling Stones still don’t have much to worry about.
