Shortly after the 2023 film Saltburn dominated conversation, Sydney duo Royel Otis became overnight sensations with their cover of Murder On the Dancefloor, the early 2000s anthem tied to the movie. Since then, they've gone from strength to strength, with sold out shows worldwide, a debut album that topped the Australian charts, and another viral cover of The Cranberries' Linger. Now their highly-anticipated sophomore album hickey is set to expand their fiercely loyal fanbase even further.
Opinion: Very Good
It's fair to say Royel Otis are hot right now. With just a handful of EPs, one full-length album, and two phenomenal covers under their belts, every barista from Melbourne to LA seems to be spinning their woozy, sun-drenched tracks. We've been here before--think The xx's debut or Tame Impala's 'Currents'--but once again, Royel Otis have tapped into that very specific blend of nostalgic, danceable indie that pretty much everyone can get behind.
