Album Review: Rammstein by Rammstein

Excellent, Based on 5 Critics

New Musical Express (NME) - 80

A resounding triumph, Rammstein's first album in a decade finds them as unique and unstoppable as ever, tethered to originality and provocation It's been an entire decade since Rammstein released a record. But realistically this album could be a collection of ditties about crustacean population of the river Rhine and people would not only buy it droves, but flock to see them play it live. In the last 30 years, no other metal band has been quite so unique and uncopied as Rammstein.

AllMusic - 80
Based on rating 8/10

After an interminable decade-long absence from the studio, German metal titans Rammstein rekindled their flame, igniting a new era with their seventh effort, RAMMSTEIN. Celebrating the band's 25th anniversary, this precision attack is both a satisfying return to classic sounds and a fresh vision of the band that remains triumphant and, most shockingly, even elegant and graceful. RAMMSTEIN stands tall alongside the expansive scope and experimental textures of early-2000s releases Mutter and Reise, Reise, stepping aside from the blitz of their preceding effort, 2009's Liebe Ist für Alle Da.

It's has been almost a decade since Rammstein last released a full-length record — but you would never know it. The internationally beloved German rockers have been generating just as much hype for this upcoming release as any of its predecessors — not to mention the requisite amount of controversy for a Rammstein release.   Untitled's first single, "Deutschland," has already amassed 50 million YouTube views in a month. The song's popularity has been matched by controversy, as Rammstein came under fire for using Nazi imagery to ….

The Lowdown: Ten years after their last album, 2009's Liebe ist für alle da, and 25 years into their career, German industrial metal powerhouses Rammstein are back with their untitled seventh album. Despite being one of heavy music's biggest and most dynamic live acts, that same fan devotion has never quite translated to the band's recording career. Ask an average rock fan to name a few Rammstein songs, and most would likely get stuck at "Du Hast".

Opinion: Excellent

A decade since 'Libee Ist Fur Alle Da', Rammstein have resurrected to bring us their seventh studio album. And boy is it the record we've all been waiting for. Opening with gothic electronics is 'Deutschland' with a distinct sense of patriotism, immediately setting the album's tone with its militant looping tabs and piercing synths. Although renowned for their heavy metal tracks, 'Du Hast', 'Fuhre Mich' and album opener, 'Deutschland,' have an almost glitch-pop sound, the blistering, enchanting tone of Till Lindemann (as usual) darkens the aesthetic, but vocally, brings a sadness as he chants: "Germany my heart is on fire." Once again the German six-piece remind us they never stray far from their effortlessly timeless sound.
