Album Review: The Parlour by Picture Parlour

Excellent, Based on 3 Critics

The Line of Best Fit - 80
Based on rating 8/10

On their debut LP, they justify the hype that has been building for the past two years. Describing the album as a jukebox, which is certainly apt, with influences ranging from Northern Soul to psychedelia and 70s rock n roll. "Cielo Drive" captures the rock n roll influence in an explosive cocktail, Katherine Parlour's vocals stretched and capturing something rough and ready.

Clash Music
Opinion: Excellent

"I broke your heart in the parlour at seventeen, the words we exchanged, they were morbid," lead vocalist Katherine Parlour of indie rock duo Picture Parlour croons on 'Used To Be Your Girlfriend'. For their debut album, the titular parlour is a place of remorse and nostalgia, but also one of charm, cheekiness and catharsis. Distancing themselves from the sudden hype that burgeoned from the release of their debut single in 2023, Picture Parlour have taken back the reins: 'The Parlour' transports us to a world that is unapologetically theirs, capturing the blazing spirit of rock'n'roll - a quality that Picture Parlour themselves embody with both swagger and sincerity.

DIY Magazine
Opinion: Excellent

After releasing debut single 'Norwegian Wood' in 2023, Picture Parlour were met with an immediate cascade of praise - one which even included an endorsement from Courtney Love. Two years later, their rise has been steadier than that flash-in-the-pan start suggested it would be, and the wait has paid off. Here, the band sound like they've been ripped straight from the '70s - indeed, one needs look no further than their Pink Floyd-inspired album cover or guitarist Ella Risi's swaggering, Zeppelin-esque riffs (see: 'Cielo Drive') to be transported back in time.
