He’s previously released four critically-hailed solo albums and worked with Lee Hazlewood and Nick Lowe, but The High Llamas’ guitarist Pete Aves has been rolling with some hefty punches over the past decade. Divorce and periods of homelessness have tested him since his last solo LP, You, Me And Bill Withers, was released in 2007 and the fact he finished writing one of his best new songs, the Bert Jansch-flavoured Blues For Bob & Cliff, while in police custody suggests he’s struggled to find his way out of the woods. We should, however, be thankful Aves has prevailed, for his fifth LP, See How, is arguably his most compelling yet.
