Album Review: MIIEN by MIEN

Neither performative nor kitsch, this is ritual, spellwork, the moment between waking and sleep where sound becomes skin and rhythm becomes breath MIEN's MIIEN is not an album. It is a fever, a vision that arrives not with explanation but with heat – an unseasonal heat that presses against the body like memory, that arrives before dawn and burns through the eyes like language misfiring in the mouth of God, and if you don't listen carefully, if you don't surrender, you'll miss the fact that the walls are bending inward, that your chest has started to echo, that the song is not playing, you are playing, and no one – not even the song – cares if you make it back. Because psychedelia was never clean, was never polite, was never your friend’s curated vinyl collection or a scented candle and headphones – it was wildness, yes, but also precision, like a surgeon who's sweating through his gloves.
