Album Review: the world is still here and so are we by Mclusky

Exceptionally Good, Based on 3 Critics

musicOMH.com - 90
Based on rating 4.5

Scratchy guitar riffs and thunderous bass, all driven by pounding drums, suggest that the last 20 Mclusky-free years have just disappeared in a puff of smoke Having disbanded some 20 years ago, Mclusky‘s fizzling out was somewhat out of step with what the band usually bought to the table. On stage and in the studio, Mclusky was one of the most acerbic, aggressive, and sarcastic bands around. For those lucky enough to watch the original line up tear up stages and thrash themselves and their instruments to the point of destruction, they became one of those bands that transcended pretty much everyone else.

The Line of Best Fit - 80
Based on rating 8/10

So the long-awaited return of mclusky with the world is still here and so are we is less a comeback and more a reawakening, like the band fell asleep in 2005, had a particularly bizarre dream about late-stage capitalism, and woke up just in time to start shouting about it all over again. The noise-punk trio, now comprised of original member Andy Falkous and latter OG era Jack Egglestone, joined by Damien Sayell (Future of the Left, The St. Pierre Snake Invasion), has forged something rare here: a reunion album that doesn't dwell in nostalgia or trip over its legacy.

The Quietus
Opinion: Excellent

The mere mention of Mclusky is often enough to elicit a laugh. Formed in 1996, the Welsh noise-rockers made absurdity their business from day one. With such song titles as 'The World Loves Us And Is Our Bitch' and 'Kkkitchens, What Were You Thinking?', it’s safe to say they never took themselves all that seriously. Joking aside, the hard-riffing surrealists released a run of three stellar studio albums before splitting in 2005.
