Working with producer Sturgill Simpson helped Lucette perform a complete reversal of direction on her second album, Deluxe Hotel Room. Cloaked in echo and anchored in electronics, Deluxe Hotel Room is a distinct sonic departure from Lucette's earthy, Dave Cobb-produced 2014 debut Black Is the Color. Shifting perspectives as it changes colors, Deluxe Hotel Room is proudly, almost defiantly urban; the songs are concerned with a decaying relationship and the production is sophisticated, purposely blurring lines between styles and eras.
