You remember that video to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'? Of course you do. Well, remember those cheerleaders, gaudily made up, eyes blackened with an excess of mascara, droning through their routine as Kurt spat and looked moody in his striped jumper? I reckon that’s what an OCD Go Go Go Girl might just look like: dishevelled but still riotously erotic, a piece of mainstream culture and sexuality adorned with the trappings of the alternative universe. Which actually isn’t a bad way to look at the Lovvers' debut LP – raw, unchained rock and roll sexuality daubed in something to make it look pretty.
Lovvers are a noisy punk rock band, but the Nottingham-based four piece remain assiduously melodic. Born from the ashes of various other bands, including the lamented Murder of Rosa Luxemburg and Tera:Tora, Lovvers released a 13-minute, seven-track EP last year to much underground acclaim. Their first proper LP reflects its jittery title; it's brimful with melody, scuffed guitars and singer Shaun Hencher's scuzzy vocals.
