The second outing from the female half of Australian sibling folk-pop duo Angus & Julia Stone is steeped in the sunset hue of 1970s California pop. Produced by Thomas Bartlett (the National) and Patrick Dillett (Mary J. Blige), By the Horns' greatest strength is also its biggest distraction.

Opinion: Very Good

Stone’s second solo LP offers familiar sounds, and misses the contrast of her brother. Tom Hocknell 2012 When Angus and Julia Stone released their debut album A Book Like This in 2007, they appeared to have landed from another world, apparently raised in the Australian woods amidst dream catchers and sing-alongs. Its follow-up, Down the Way, continued to mine both modern folk and the Carpenters, the siblings’ voices perfectly entwined.
