When Seattle's Big Business were still a bass-and-drums duo, they seemed like what could've happened if Lightning Bolt decided to become an actual metal band instead of a terrifying parody of one. Like that Providence duo, Big Business made busy music-- the sort of chaotic roiling thunder that can only happen when two expert musicians decide to make as much noise as possible. But unlike Lightning Bolt, Big Business put those gifts in service of burly bellowed hooks and the sorts of hammerhead riffs that would've impressed any high-school parking-lot hessian at any point over the past 40 years.
Big Business are still anything but a typical rock band... Anyone thinking the addition of a second axeman might place Big Business in ‘typical’ rock band territory still has a lot to learn. First of all, said guitar wrangler is Scott Martin of Crom infamy (check out their magnificent ‘Cocaine Wars’ odyssey or die a pathetic loser...) and, duh, second of all this is Big Business we’re talking about.
If Van Halen’s music were blown up with a bazooka, it would sound like Seattle-based metal band Big Business. It seems like only yesterday Big Business was just a two-piece drummer/bassist combo consisting of Jared Warren and Coady Willis. Six years later, though, the band has added two extra members and a whole lot of big, doom-metal sound. Quadruple Single is the first set of recordings done with guitarist Scott Martin of the ferocious metal/punk band 400 Blows.
