Album Review: Burden of Proof by Benny the Butcher

Burden of Proof, the second studio album from Griselda collective member Benny the Butcher, comes almost 20 years into a fruitful and hard-fought career. The Buffalo, New York rapper began self-releasing mixtapes in the early 2000s, developing a style of coarse, storytelling rhymes centered around themes of drug dealing, hustling, and unforgiving street life. Burden of Proof finds Benny the Butcher fully formed after years of development and growth.
Griselda's remarkable run of form is one of Stateside hip-hop's most remarkable upon 2020 phenomenons. With core members such as Conway The Machine aiming for God-status and Westside Gunn producing career best runs, the Buffalo stable is clearly riding the crest of a wave. 'Burden Of Proof' finds Benny The Butcher tapping into this seam of gold, and it's a crisp, soulful exhibition from an MC with talent to burn.
