essential summer v i b e s How do you measure the quality of a dream pop record? Have you considered using a vibe-o-meter? wait sorry no come back sorry allow me to propose something better. Let's use the following scale: How Much Does [dream pop record] Make Me Want to Romanticise My Life? If we're using this extremely scientific method, Beach Fossils albums are the goodest of the bestest. Hell, my initial idea for this review was centred around the idea that, in spite of their absence in recent times, the band have always ~been with me~.
Photo by Sinna Nasseri Bunny by Beach Fossils Beach Fossils' new album Bunny offers ample evidence that strong melodies and ear-catching production can go a long way. Right from opening track "Sleeping On My Own," Dustin Payseur's band lock into a tightly executed blend of post-punk propulsion, dream-pop jangle, and shoegaze atmospherics. Though there's nothing here that's particularly original or knock-you-flat outstanding, it's all handled impeccably, recorded vividly, and sequenced smartly to make the album's 38 minutes fly by.
Summer… no other time of year compares to the sun-soaked few months of bliss, where cans in the park with pals and showing off dodgy tan lines become more important than anything else. But nothing beats being able to soundtrack this time with music that blends into the moment so well, it's as though you'll remember it forever. That's exactly what Beach Fossils' new record 'Bunny' delivers.
