We've been looking forward to this one for a while... Against The Current’s rise so far has been extraordinary, but what if on their debut album, they’d messed it up before they’d even got going?Uh, they didn’t mess it up. This album fizzes into life with ‘Running With The Wild Things’, and rarely lets up. ‘Forget Me Now’ is an arena-filling anthem already and ‘One More Weekend’ a feel-good summer smash that’s primed for radio, while there are shades of Halsey on the intricate, measured swell of ‘Wasteland’.‘In Our Bones’ is a versatile, ballsy take on modern pop-rock, and it’s impossible not to sit back and admire as Chrissy, Dan and Will take another step on the way to superstardom.
Review Summary: Chasing the sun 'til anything felt rightNearly six years ago, I sat at this very computer and wrote about the arrival of a certain Fueled By Ramen threesome. Their debut full-length arrived as the summer weather did, following a set of strong EPs, some fun YouTube covers, and a robust social media blitz. The record itself had style. It was far from perfect, but demonstrated range and experimentation that was refreshing for a release in that space, and it left the implication that there was more to come.
