A Music Man on steroids

I am a funk/pop/rock/gospel/jazz player, and I think if you are a funky-&-all styles, fast pace music, some chords and solos (24 frets with hella easy access to the high range), and long gigging player, this is your bass. This bass is so versatile. You can make it sound like a J Bass and also like a music man but with the luxury of 24 frets. The neck feels great! like butter. It is a bit heavy but not as heavy like a j bass or long scale monster basses. It is on the lighter side for sure. Really reminds me of a very versatile music man. Honestly I was sketched out by how cheap it is... It does not feel cheap at all. This bass should be like $900. But oh well, it's a hidden jewel. I was also not convinced about the blade switch at first... But it makes it so much easier to switch from style to style. You need rock, boom put it on the pick one. You're going to take a solo boom put it on solo. Etc. I personally leave it on FLAT. and move the pickup panning to get those fat mids when in need. I really love this bass, it became my main bass. I'm going to get roasted by the bass police because I'm playing a 400 dollar bass but oooff so comfortable with the luxury of fat tones, and 24 frets and versatility, AND lightness. Good job Yamaha!

Wow! Amazing!

This Yamaha 5 string bass exceeds my expectations!
With all the 5 star reviews, I admit I was skeptical. Was this bass really worthy of so many 5 star reviews?

Hands down, it most certainly was! A beautifully crafted bass with and incredible sound!

Yamaha! A home run! The TRBX 305 is the 5 string bass you are looking for!

Thanks Sam! You never fail me!

Fantastic bass!! Thank you Yamaha, Sweetwater and Matt Stockberger!

I was a little worried about buying a bass online, and one I had not played in person but, I love the fact that Sweetwater photographs in HD the actual bass you are purchasing. I also loved the fact they inspect each instrument with their 55 point checklist for defects prior to sending it to you. I had played a TRBX505 at a local store and liked it the best of all the 5 strings they had available in stock but didn't like the color and, it was more expensive than what Sweetwater has them listed as. I then saw this bass, the TRBX305 @ Sweetwater.com, and loved the color and figured it was pretty similar to the TRBX505 except for the electronics. I loved the idea of the 5 position switch. I have played a few 5 strings but never owned one and didn't want to spend too much on my first 5 string bass. I already own 10 basses, including 2 uprights, a real 1957 and 1959 Fender P bass, Fender jazz plus bass, ESP, and 2 Deans, Kay and Danelectro along with 2 Marin guitars, including a 1969 D-28 I bought in 1969 and a PRS and a Squire Strat and Epiphone. I decided to order this bass loved the fact you are able to track your order each step of the way. It was free shipping and no sales tax because I live in Delaware. It arrived in 3 days in flawless condition. It played and felt wonderful right out of the box! It feels very solid and the knobs feel expensive and turn very very smooth. The tuning pegs are solid as well. The neck is a satin finish and love how it feels. The intonation is spot on and the neck is straight with the perfect amount of relief. If there is anything at all that needs adjusting is the nut may be a hair too high. I am taking it to my guy to have him check the slot height. It still feels good, and if it is, it's only a schosh. Yamaha makes some quality instruments and I would definitely recommend this bass and Sweetwater. Thank you Matt Stockberger for taking such care of me and my purchase. I highly recommend this bass if you don't want to break the bank and Sweetwater for your store! Jan Zukowski

Good over bass

This is a good overall bass. The Neck feels nice. The back is perfect but it is a little wider that my other 5 string bass but is still very easy to play and comfortable. The body has a lot of different cut aways and it makes it easy to play standing up, sitting down, upside down, low gravity, or whatever. Love the cut aways. The two things that I don't like is 1: the tone. It is very dark for my taste. Had to turn up the treble to hear the timber or characteristics of the pitch. Turning up the treble on the bass helped but need a pedal preamp to really make it shine. Also, when that happened the 5 way EQ worked amazingly. The 5 ways is a lot of fun to use and there is many applications that makes this bass usable in a lot of different situations. 2: is the pick ups. There is a curves on it make a nice resting place for my thumb for finger picking. However, you cant move your thumb to be more expressive. You are stuck. They should have just stuck to a normal shape soap bar pickup. Other than that, it was easy to tune, make adjustments to my liking and overall a very useful bass that I look forward to using both on stage and in the studio.
