Ernie Ball Short Scale Slinky Bass Strings

Ernie Ball strings have been a top choice for players of all types since the early 1960s, when guitarists came into Ernie Ball's music store, customizing their string gauges to make their axes easier to play. After fruitless attempts to interest major guitar manufacturers in a lighter set of strings, Ernie Ball decided to start making his own. When you open a pack of his strings today, you know you're getting a quality product designed to give you great tone, reliable performance, and long life. You can't go wrong when you string up with Ernie Ball strings!

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Short Scale Bass Strings are a punchy-sounding option for your short-scale bass. Made from nickel plated steel (NPS) windings wrapped around tin plated, hex shaped steel core wire, Slinkys produce a well balanced, all-around great sound, no matter what your playing style.

Regarding review titled: Too short for string through mustang bass

I almost didn't buy these strings because I saw the review stating these were too short for the Mustang Bass. I contacted the manufacturer to see if they were long enough and they confirmed they would fit. So ignoring the bad review, I took a chance and ordered them from Sweetwater. I opened up the strings, starting with the G string since that is the string that needs to be the longest based on the tuner arrangement. The tuner is 38" from the bridge and the string length of the Ernie Ball 45 gauge G string is 46". I can't imagine needing more than 8" to wrap around the tuner post. The other strings are the same length. I did notice that the tapering on the Ernie Ball 105 gauge E string barely reaches the tuner post before it tapers down. But I think that's by design as you don't really want to wrap a 105 gauge string around the post, and the tapering is well above the nut. I guess it's possible that the manufacturer has recently made these strings a little longer. I can definitely confirm that these strings will fit a Fender Mustang Bass.

Best strings for my SS basses

These strings came stock on my Sterling by Music Man Stingray Short Scale. I love the way they sound and feel! In fact, I ordered another set for my other short scale bass.

Do NOT fit on my string through body Mustang Bass

These are great strings, I have them on my string through bridge Jaguar Bass and I love them, but they are too short for my string through body Mustang Bass. They taper out just before the nut and therefore cannot be tuned to pitch. They start buzzing like crazy before getting anywhere near in tune. If they were just a little bit longer they would fit, but unfortunately they are not. Which is a shame because I've also tried the medium scale version of these strings with the same gauge and they were too long. The un-tapered part of the low E string started to wrap around the tuning peg which also resulted in a buzzing sound. These short scale strings would probably fit on a string through bridge Mustang, but I can't recommend them for a string through body Mustang. I guess I'll have to find a different brand of strings for my Mustang.
