An Acoustic Experience Like No Other

The Yamaha TransAcoustic FG-TA 6-string acoustic-electric guitar is a high-quality instrument that delivers an acoustic experience like no other guitar before it. With Yamaha's onboard TransAcoustic reverb and chorus effects, you'll enjoy the tones of playing in a rich and lively acoustic space no matter where you are. The FG-TA features a dreadnought body with mahogany back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top. You'll love the feel of this guitar's fast-action neck and smooth, bound rosewood fingerboard. The Yamaha TransAcoustic FG-TA will add new inspiration to your playing.

Unamplified ambiance

Yamaha's groundbreaking TransAcoustic technology delivers onboard reverb and chorus effects. What sets TransAcoustic guitars apart from other instruments with onboard effects is that they don't require any external amplification. Engage the effects via the simple-to-use controls, and it's like you're playing in a rich, ambient venue — no amp or PA required. And when it's time for the gig, you can access those same great tones plugged in through the guitar's System70 + SRT Piezo pickup system.

How it works

The key to TransAcoustic is an integrated actuator, a small device hidden inside the guitar. The vibration of the instrument's strings cause the actuator to vibrate; these vibrations are transmitted to the guitar body, as well as the air around the guitar. The result is authentic reverb and chorus — without the need for any additional amplification or effects.

Guitarists at Sweetwater love Yamaha's FG series guitars. It's not hard to see why they are worldwide bestsellers: the comfortable dreadnought bodies, professional-grade tonewoods, and fast-playing necks make these acoustics great first instruments for beginners and solid seconds for seasoned players who need an extra acoustic for the stage or to play around the house.

Fantastic Guitar

I wanted to give an honest review of this guitar. I will start by saying that I have had Martins, Breedlove's, Ibanez's and I have a Taylor that I absolutely love. I would go to my local music store on the weekend and play all the guitars to get away from work/the family for a bit. I would play the other fine guitars, but for some reason I kept coming back to this one. Over a month or 2 I noticed that every time I would end up with this guitar for the longest. It looks nice and I tried to capture both views (in the bright light and just normal light). The guitar has a more reddish tone in the sunlight which looks fantastic and in my office light it is more of a brown burst. I really noticed this when I took it home. The shop I got it from has good natural lighting and my office tends to be dark. The neck is great and it is more U'ish shaped versus my Taylor which is more C like. The neck is very comfy and fast, but has a slightly different profile than I was used too. I will say that I do like the neck a lot even though it is slightly different. I think Yamaha is under rated to a certain degree versus some of the other acoustic manufacturers, the value is amazing. Their red label series plays fantastic as well.
The voice on this guitar is different than other acoustics I have. My other guitars are dreadnoughts and grand auditorium style guitars. It can take strumming for sure, but I don't feel like it likes it when I dig into it. This guitar seems to like the more articulate approach. By that I mean finger style stuff to more normal to light strumming. When I really pound on it I feel like the guitar responds, but it isn't as pretty of a sound. When I am playing it normal it really sings with a nice deep resonant voice. Another guitar of this series might sound different, but that's just what I have found my guitar really likes. It really is like a woman to a certain degree, if you are too rough it isn't happy, if you come at it with a more delicate/loving approach the response from the instrument is amazing.
The electronics are something that I never thought I would use. I watched the videos and frankly didn't care about all the effects. I never plug in my acoustics so I was like whatever. With that being said after a few months I started playing with them and was really blown away. The effects that you can do straight out the sound holes are really fun. It s fun to play with and you can get some great tones.

I hope this helps.. Happy playing

Surprised but not Surprised

So, I got this as an exchange for another guitar I wasn't happy with. Sweetwater making this possible. I am so glad I did. This guitar is based on the FG820. Scalloped bracing, solid spruce top and laminate mahogany back and sides. Dont let that word "laminate" distract you. It outshines many more expensive, all-solid guitars I've played. I also own an FG830 with lots of added embellishments (the rosewood equivalent of the FG720.) I'm enjoying playing this just as much for its unique sound.Like the FG830, it's is resonant abd articulate, and even without the transacoustic switch on, it has an inspiring sound that makes you want to keep playing it. I've had Martin's, Yaris, Taks and Gibsons, and this is one of my favorites. Thanks to Linsey at Sweetwater for helping with the exchange and when there were shipping errors with the carrier, Justin worked his magic and made sure I got my guitar, Also, this baby feels like it's already had a pro setup and has a fantastic finish with the tobacco burst. It's just flawless. I'm loving my new FG-TA.
Music background: I've played for 50 years, led bands, worship, directed choirs, playing gigs, mostly acoustic. Owned Martin's, Takamines, Gibbons, Paris, etc

Nothing else like in the general market. I can't explain the resonator other than there is one and you just have to trust me when tell you it's absolutely magic and if you disagree, you're just not ever going to trust magic!

If I was forced to give up one of my five guitars , this one would be the last chosen. Even before my D-18

Yamaha FG-TA TransAcoustic Dreadnought Acoustic-electric Guitar - Brown Sunburst

It is a nice guitar. I just wish Yamaha would have put a light or some sort of indicator for the on/off button. It is hard for me to tell whether the TA mechanism is on or off.

Beginner taking the next step

I had asked my guitar instructor what types of acoustic guitars are out there because I was looking to upgrade from basic beginner models. I wanted to be able to have a guitar that rang true notes for longer periods and the. Also have the ability to potentially connect to an Amp.

The thing is. I am really never going to perform on stage but I would like the sound to fill the room.

This Yamaha FG-TA meets my needs of having the ability to adjust Chrous and Reverb to make my music sound so beautiful and it makes me want to play more and more.

Right out of the box on the first chord strummed, I was hooked!!! My wife sitting there with me was amazed right away as well.

I am going to keep practicing and who knows I might just get up in front of people to play this beautiful instrument.

Also I will note the quality of the construction is top notch and the appearance is stunning. I could not be any happier than I am right now.

This is an awesome guitar as the next step up from an educational guitar. It will definitely blow your mind.
Music background: Played trombone for 30 years through grade school , high school and fire department marching bands. Wanted to play guitar all my life just never had the time to invest and learn. Now at 53 starting something new and enjoying every minute of it.
