Ernie Ball 80/20 Bronze Strings

Ernie Ball strings have been a top choice for players of all types since the early 1960s, when guitarists came into Ernie Ball's music store, customizing their string gauges to make their axes easier to play. After fruitless attempts to interest major guitar manufacturers in a lighter set of strings, Ernie Ball decided to start making his own. From shredders to acoustic virtuosos, Sweetwater guitarists love Ernie Ball strings for their great tone, reliable performance, and long life. You can't go wrong when you string up with Ernie Ball strings!

Ernie's Light Earthwood 80/20 Bronze strings are made from 80% copper, 20% zinc wire wrapped around hex shaped tin plated steel core wire. They provide a crisp, ringing sound with pleasing overtones.

Excellent playability and sound

I hesitated to try these strings because the 11-52 offerings of other brands I've tried have had, to my ears, a thin and even tinny sound, especially when it comes to the plain strings. So I've cycled through mostly 12-53 strings from other brands, but I never got the sound I wanted out of my 2020 Epiphone USA Texan until now.

These Earthwood strings are a completely different animal from other 11-52s I've tried. In fact, I had to tighten the truss rod slightly to get the same neck relief as with the previous 12-53 strings I had on the guitar — meaning these slightly thinner strings have greater tension at pitch. Yet they're easier to play than the previous strings, and sound incredible: tastefully bright but also full and warm, with plenty of sustain. It's a balanced sound, unlike the overly bright 80/20 bronze strings of some other brands.

I'll echo the comments of others that you owe it to yourself to try these strings if you're not happy with the sound or playability of your current strings.

My Favorite Acoustic Strings!

If i was going to be stranded on a desert island i would want to have plenty of Earthwood strings to get me through 20 years of being stranded. I am 68 and started using them in 1970. They are just perfect.
Music background: 53 years of playing guitar, everywhere.

So far the best!

I spent many years trying different strings on my Fender CD-60 acoustic, I found these at a more local store. Glad I did, they improved the sound of that guitar, and switching down a string size made it much easier to play, as well! I have had no desire to try other strings since finding these, they sound quite nice when new, and still sound nice months later, as I clean my strings after playing. I purchased more from sweetwater with a recent order so I don't have any excuses to not practice!

I recommend trying them out, especially on the CD-60. And if you catch them on sale, even better!

Awesome

Had some mediums on but wanted to try these. Glad I did. Very nice tone. Warm, but powerful :). Should have gotten a 3 pack lol.
