Presto Chango DI Box

The Behringer Ultra-DI DI20 Active 2-Channel DI-Box/Splitter can convert two separate unbalanced 1/4" inputs into two balanced XLR outputs. Need a signal splitter? The DI20 does that too. Whether you're a keyboardist, guitarist, or bassist, you'll marvel at the flexibility this little box gives you. Feed it two mono signals, a stereo signal, or a split signal feeding two separate amps. You also get a groundlift and a 3-position input attenuator to school unruly signals - so you can even connect it to your guitar amp's speaker output! The Behringer Ultra-DI DI20 is cool.

Behringer Ultra-DI DI20 Active 2-Channel DI-Box/Splitter Features at a Glance:
  • Multi-purpose direct injection box for stage and studio applications
  • Provides impedance and signal matching for direct connection of instruments to mixers and amplifiers
  • Converts 2 independent unbalanced 1/4'' TRS line inputs into 2 balanced XLR outputs

  • Internal battery automatically shuts off when phantom power is applied
  • Allows direct connection to speaker outputs with up to 3,000W
  • Groundlift switch eliminates typical ground loop problems

One Tuff Little Box

I recently order the Behringer DI20 direct box from Sweetwater. I've always had good luck with Behringer products, they are reasonably priced and work well. I was asleep when the package arrived, but my 80lb. black lab, Pooh-dog, accepted the delivery for me (hope the mail lady is OK). When I found my package, scattered all over the back yard, there was not a piece of it bigger than the palm of my hand. Except for the DI box, the blister pack it was in had teeth marks in the plastic, but the DI box was in good shape. When I hooked it up everything worked, and it sounded pretty good on my PA system. So, I ordered another one just like it. By the way, Chuck, Pooh-dog said Thanks for the candy, she really enjoyed it!

No noise here!

Bought one for keyboard di, and works as it should with no noise, not sure where the other reviewers are getting noise from. maybe I'm lucky but works perfect for my use.

Excellent Product

I have been using 4 of these for many many years and not once had any issues. Very quiet and versatile. I use it for all types of stage configurations and in my recording studio. Out performs many of the other products that costs much more. I will continue to use these.....

DI20

I find it interesting that the majority of reviews for the DI20 are bad. My experience has been great (knock on wood). I have 4 of them. For the price, I don't think I could ask for a better deal. I certainly prefer it to passive DI's in the same price range. I have only used these in live (sound reinforcement) situations.
Two things to keep in mind:
1) make sure your board's phantom power supply is adequate to handle everything you are running; mics,DI's, etc... can add up to a substantial current draw, relatively speaking. The DI20 spec sheet says it will work with 18 to 48volt. I have only run it at 48 volts from a Yamaha analog board. If your supply is overloaded and browning-out, it may create noise problems.
2) Be careful with the attenuation switch. I have run several different types of acoustic guitars thru this DI and haven't had any problems. However, all guitar outputs are not created equal. Use 0dB if you can get away with it but if you get even a hint of distortion during sound-check, insert the 20dB pad.

Working for years

We have 4 of these in our church. They are neither the quietest nor highest quality direct boxes available. (See Radial ProAV, etc.) In our setup we have a live band, singers and pastors for 95%+ of our services, all patched with quality mics, DIs, etc.

For ancillary sound such as pre-service music from an iPod, a video w/ audio-track from a laptop, or even an unexpected instrument, we use the DI20. The stereo i/o and 3 levels of attenuation make life easy no matter the source. We ALWAYS keep one connected to the console in the booth; and ALWAYS have a spare backstage. An inexpensive way to be ready for the unexpected.
