If you’re not willing to try saying the band’s name out loud, you’re probably not patient enough for the album itself. For all who are curious, it’s pronounced (all together now) “Double ‘U’, double ‘V’, double ‘W’ … ‘Z’.” No, really. Once you get the rhythm of it, though, the name becomes kind of catchy, like the world’s worst stadium chant.
First, let's get something out of the way: Even if you instinctively recoil in horror just thinking of another band with two consecutive Vs in their name, UUVVWWZ is definitely not the worst band name you've ever encountered. Aside from the fact that the group insists on pronouncing it "Double 'U' Double 'V' Double 'W'. .
Nebraska natives UUVVWWZ could have never predicted that their highly unusual handle would turn in to such a liability, when they chose it back in 2007. Yet by the time their debut was released in July 2009, their name immediately called to mind the double-V blogosphere whipping boy, Wavves. This association is nearly as unfortunate as the band’s chosen pronunciation: “double U, double V, double W, Z” which despite their best hopes, will never quite roll of the tongue.
