Album Review: Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads

Fairly Good, Based on 1 Critic

The Guardian - 60
Based on rating 3/5

This unusual horizontal-box package contains three CDs plus a DVD transfer of the video-clips collection Storytelling Giant, all leading to the uncomfortable conclusion that the Talking Heads catalogue isn't quite adequate to fill all this space. If you already own the two-disc Sand in the Vaseline collection, you may ask yourself "Do I really need this?". Not that they didn't crank out a generous dollop of highlights - I Zimbra, Life During Wartime, Heaven, And She Was et al - but stuff from the debut album now sounds irritatingly thin and scratchy, while material from their last couple of albums, True Stories and Naked, is the sound of a band reaching the end of its tether.
