Album Review: Rationale by Rationale

Fairly Good, Based on 2 Critics

The Observer (UK) - 60
Based on rating 3/5

The strength of Zimbabwe-born, London-based artist Rationale – real name Tinashe Fazakerley – lies in his charismatic, soulfully elegant baritone voice. The best moments of this album find him harnessing that majestic voice. His tremulous intonations on closing track Somewhere to Belong bathe the song in an engulfing richness, while tracks such as the spiritually suffused Fuel to the Fire and Prodigal Son boast a gorgeous ambition reminiscent of Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience.

Opinion: Very Good

Zimbabwe-born Tinashe Fazakerley has taken the long road to releasing his debut studio album. Well, in actual fact, this is the London-based singer’s second chance at a debut album, with his first being issued under the name Tinashe back in 2010. That album, ‘Saved’, was not met with much fanfare upon release, however, a seven-year grind and a name change has led to ‘Rationale’ being one of this year’s most anticipated R&B projects. Anyone that has been actively following Rationale’s career from the re-birth in 2015 may feel as though this project provides little new material.
