John Tejada's fourth full-length for Kompakt is a succinct, incredibly focused album of complex, melodic techno tracks. Essentially, the same can be said about most of the dozen or so albums he's released since the '90s, but given how prolific the artist has always been, it's truly remarkable that he's maintained such a high level of creativity and originality, sounding fresh and inspired every time out. All 11 selections on Dead Start Program are upbeat and vibrant, and despite being instrumental, they seem like songs as much as tracks.
When John Tejada made the move to Kompakt Records in 2011, it seemed like a match made in techno heaven. Four albums in with the Cologne-based label, the L. A.
The Los Angeles producer John Tejada's hyper-crystalline house and techno suggest a deeply-rooted fascination with sound as raw material. While his beats remain relatively unspectacular, four-to-the-floor fare, it's his antiseptic timbres, vacuum-sealed arrangements, and meticulously programmed synth textures that stand out. He knows how to fine-tune the internal order a track so that lushnessness overflows.
